The Scale

Is not a measure of your worth

Original release date: January 19th, 2016

Relying on a scale is stupid.

There. I said it. Let that sink in for a second.

Many people in today's society are concerned about their looks, weight, popularity and more. These are all reasonable subjects to be concerned about as many find their self worth and confidence in who they are.

However, when these concerns become obsessive, and a large negative influence in one's life, problems arise. Crash diets. Eating disorders. Addictions. All disgusting habits which can literally ruin a life.

And many of these feelings come about from a number on a scale.

Now, please don't get me wrong. One's weight can be a very important marker of health and lifestyle sustainability. Yet, a number cannot explain:

-How one feels inside

-Self confidence

-Levels of positive self talk

-Inches lost (hips, waist, etc)

-Overall satisfaction

-Fat loss vs. Muscle loss

Listen, I've spent most of my life worrying over a scale. When I wrestled in high school, if that number was lower, the better chance I would have at winning my matches. In football, the larger the number, the less I could be pushed around. But in life, this number does not explain who I am, what I have gone through, or where I am going in life.

If you are in the business of losing weight, please take a second to review how much you rely on the scale. What is more important to you: having a lower number, or feeling better. Coming from someone who has obsessed too much in his young life, finding a healthy balance between your weight and what it actually means can be the difference between being stuck in a rut and improving your life.
